MEET DR PAUL BEARER
In the small town of Tombstone Hollow, population: Uncertain, lived an extraordinary man known as Dr. Paul Bearer. Like his name might suggest, Dr. Paul is a funeral director and undertaker, with a peculiar fascination for things that go bump in the night.
Born to Morticia and Mortimer Bearer under a blood moon (or so the family legend goes), Dr. Paul had an affinity for the peculiar from the get-go. As a child, he had an impressive collection of pet tarantulas, a knack for communicating with bats, and an unexplainable ability to make milk curdle just by walking past it.
Dr. Paul Bearer is known for his extravagant attire. His laugh? It can be heard across the graveyard on a stormy night, a deep, resonant cackle that sends shivers down even the bravest spines.
This charming character isn’t just all about frights, though. He is a connoisseur of the culinary arts, particularly when it came to concocting mysterious brews. His specialty? A spine-chilling chili that he claims has burned the hearts of many a wandering spirit. The secret ingredient? He’ll never tell, but rumors involve ghost peppers (literally).
His home, The Tenement Castle perched atop a hill is the gathering spot for all things supernatural. It’s said that on any given night, you can find a werewolf waxing poetic on the front porch or a group of specters engaged in a riveting game of poker.
In the 1970’s he began hosting horrible old movies. He’d invite visitors into his Tenement Castle for the movie. Dr. Paul Bearer lives in a world of his own. People always say he is so peculiar. He agrees and states that being normal takes a lot more effort.
The Dr. Paul Bearer character was originated by Dick Bennick Sr. in 1973 and he played the role until his death in 1995. In 2015, Richard Koon, with encouragement from Mr. Bennick’s family, assumed the role. Koon honors the legacy role with delightfully spooky, often eye-rolling humor and puns, while also breathing new life with fresh content and sets but with the same old horrible movies.
